Ball nights

Trying to find us this summer?  Odds are we're at a baseball or softball diamond somewhere in the Metro.  S is playing baseball with the boys, and developing quite the swing and arm.  E is playing 8U (her birthday has her playing with the younger kids one year, like this, and the older kids the next), and continues to be Miss Reliable, slapping out singles and making smart plays in the field.  I'm coaching both, Buster serves double mascot duty... and Linds plays superfan #99.

Summer kickoff

Not long after the final bell rang at Meadow Ridge, we packed up the car for a few "summer kickoff" nights at the Jung's cabin.  The kiddos tubed, paddle boarded and dock-fished the weekend away.  After "tucking them in each night" (or, rather, tossing a pile of sleeping bags in front of a movie screen), the parents kicked our legs up, tossed a few back and chatted over games and bonfires.

Thanks for the invite, J&J!

Last day of school

Here's the year-end interview...

What was your favorite thing about 1st/3rd grade?
E: What do me mean 'favorite' thing? Is there a favorite subject question? I don't get it. Fine. Gym. Or, Field Day. Or, Daily Three.
D: What's 'Daily Three'?
E: Skills.
D: Like what skills?
E: Uggggghhhh! Why do I have to do this?!?
S: Why does Evie ALWAYS get to go first?!?
D: Because we like her more. What's your favorite thing about 1st grade?
S: Fitness Day.
D: What's that?
S: YOU JUST CAME TO IT YESTERDAY!
D: Field day?
S: YES. That's what I just said.

What will you miss most about 1st/3rd grade?
E: [eyes rolled so far back in her head only the whites can be seen] Miss Kubly.
S: Miss Jensen.

What won't you miss about 1st/3rd grade?
E: Number Corner.
D: And, what's 'Number Corner'?
E: [slams table, walks away]
D: No, really, Evie, c'mon... what's 'Number Corner'?
E: IT'S WHERE YOU SIT. IN A CORNER. AND... "LEARN" [finger quotes]
D: Why did you do air quotes?  Is it because you already know the things, and that's why you...
E: [leaves room]
S: Taco day.
D: What about Ta...
S: EVIE!!!!! [leaves room]

It's going to be fun summer...

Fairmont Fun

With a Friday forecast of upper 90s and clear skies, the fam' made an impromptu trip to the lake in Fairmont.  When we arrived, the winds amped up so we improvised and toured Nurse Nana's office at the high school, and found dad and uncle Joe on the FHS Wall of Hame, fished the tree-protected channel behind the Yacht Club, and horsed around at Amber Lake Park... until the winds calmed enough to get out on the water.

Field Day

Meadow Ridge's 2018 field day was a hot one, but it didn't seem to slow the kids down.  Evie was a 3-legged race and layup line master, and Sawyer crushed her 50m hurdle heat and threw a helluva deep ball (after a miraculous recovery from some serious tug-of-war rope burn).
