Rock & Roll
There are really just three sounds in our home these days... the bouncing of basketballs, the silence of iPad time or the (sometimes) sweet sounds of the making of the next Lorie Line and Jimi Hendrix.
Blaine Invitational (3A)
Sawyer's crew kept rolling through everything in its way in Blaine. More swarming defense, more fearless jumping through traffic (for boards or to disrupt passing lane), more fast breaks, and impressively solid execution of a growing offensive playbook.
A February to remember
MN recieved over 32" of snow in February, an all-time record, by the 20th! More came after, but we all stopped counting...
Blaine Invitational (4A)
Another weekend, another hoops tournament. E's squad played up a bracket, and fought hard against A-teams from Mahtomedi (ranked #2 in the State), Minnetonka and Edina but fell short in each. E had one of her best offensive games against the Zephyrs, knocking down a handful of long jumpers and a FT.

Farmington Classic (4C)
Sawyer tried out for Wayzata's 3rd grade travel hoops team after her rec season ended... and made the squad!
As there aren't many 3rd grade travel teams in the State, the team's first tournament was Farmington's 4-C Classic... and they won it!
It was fun to see the girls so quickly make the jump from rec's rules (no pressing, no picks, incredibly lenient travel/double-dribble policies, etc.) and equipment (9' hoops, smaller balls, etc.) to the "big league" rules and equipment. They will be a defensive force this brief season, and can fill up the scoreboard... and they showed both in full force against their opening opponent Hudson, WI (which they won 44-3) and kept it rolling in slightly closer wins vs. Farmington and St. Paul.

Frolicking
It's quite the sight watching that beast (and his jowls) blast through the snow!
3rd Grade Rec Hoops
Sawyer's 3rd grade rec hoops squad went 8-3 in intraleague play, earning the #3 seed in the end-of-season tournament, where they lost in the semis to the undefeated #1 seed in their closest contest of the season. The team got SO much better as the season went on, most notably in their ability to execute a few plays in the half-court set, and out-of-bounds, and in finding an outlet to jump start the fast break. Sawyer was a thief on defense (recall, the league outlawed stealing off the dribble two years ago when she played on Evie's team as a kindergartener!), and developed a pretty effective spin move to get buckets from the point.
Farmington Classic (4B)
E's squad finally had a stinker of a tournament, and their medal stand streak came to an end. The girls weren't clicking, hustling or fortunate enough to have the ball bounce their way. It was the first time they had PM games, and the first time they had three in one day, and the first time they had games after their bedtimes (8:55pm!). So, there's that. There's also the fact that their fuel was almost exclusively Gatorade, Sour Patch Kids and concession stand hot dogs! Win, lose or draw though... these girls still have their fun!
